Microsoft veröffentlicht kostenloses Dateisynchronisationstool: SyncToy

Hi,

 

heute hat Microsoft mal wieder ein nettes Gimmick veröffentlicht und zwar das Synchronisationstool SyncToy. Es handelt sich zwar noch um eine Beta-Version aber bei den ersten Tests ergaben sich keinerlei Probleme und es machte genau, dass was es sollte => Ordner zügig abgleichen.

Diese Tool wurde eigentlich für Profifotographen entwickelt, aber es funktioniert auch wunderbar zur einfachen Daten-Synchronisation. (Das Tool wurde nur für den Desktopeinsatz entwickelt)

Davon abgesehen, dass meine Frau eine Kriese bekommen würde, wenn ich neben der Arbeit auch noch am Abend anstatt auf der Couch mit Ihr vor dem Comp abhänge. Dafür darf ich dann aber am Wochenende spielen ;) .

 

Ups. Mein Flieger geht. 45 min Verspätung. Super bin ich dann doch um 24:00 Uhr zu Hause.

Scheduling SyncToy

SyncToy does not support a user interface to schedule folder pairs to run at designated times. There is a method to schedule tasks using the Microsoft© Windows© operating system.

 

To schedule a task using the operating system:

 

From the Start menu, select All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Scheduled Tasks.

Select Add scheduled task to start the Scheduled Task Wizard. You will see a list of possible programs to run.

SyncToy may appear as an option in the list. If SyncToy does not appear in the list, click Browse and go find it.

The wizard will next prompt you to enter how often you want to run the scheduled SyncToy (for example, daily, weekly, et cetera). Select a frequency.

The next page asks when to start the task. Select a start time.

The next page asks for the user name and password to run the program under. Enter your user name and password.

The final page contains an option to open the properties dialog when the wizard ends. Select this checkbox.

Modify the Run textbox to include the –R command line option. –R all by itself will run all folder pairs that are active for run all. If you want to run just a single folder pair, add –R“My Pair” to the end of the command line. Note: there is a space before the hyphen but not one after the R. If the folder pair name contains a space, surround it with quotation marks, as the example above shows.

For another example, assume that SyncToy is in the folder named C:\My Folder and that you want to run a folder pair named "My folder pair." Enter the command line as follows, including the quotation marks: "C:\My Folder\SyncToy.exe" -R"My folder pair." Note that there are two sets of quotation marks in this case--one is around the path to the SyncToy program file and the other surrounds the folder pair name.

Jetzt muss ich doch nochmal nachhaken, da das Programm in einem intensiveren Test "Merkwürdigkeiten" auftauchen lässt.

 

Ich habe versucht ein Ordner-Paar mittels "ECHO"-Option zu synchronisieren. Dabei fällt auf, dass auf der rechten Seite im Einstellungsdialog die Subordner nicht alphabetisch sortiert sind. Soweit sogut, aber ich habe einige Dateien die immer wieder synchronisiert werden sollen.

 

Datum/Größe/etc. immer gleich. Nichts verändert, der Dialog kommt immer wieder. Verwundert hat mich auch, dass die Ausgabe von ATTRIB immer das gesetzte A-Flag angegeben hat - was nach meinem Verständnis nach einer Synchronisation nicht mehr hätte sein sollen ... vorausgesetzt es wird über diesen Flag gearbeitet?!

folgnede Ändernungen hat MS aufgrund Userfeedbacks vorgenommen:

 

We added this feature between the beta release and the current v1.0 release. Features we added in response to customer feedback include:

 

 

* The ability to type in a UNC path;

 

* Support for longer folder pair names and ability to widen the left pane to see those longer names;

 

* The ability to support the maximum length for folder paths, and documentation was added to the help file about how to set up a share to be able to sync deep folder pairs;

 

* Better handling of the difference in precision between NTFS and FAT timestamps;

 

* More discoverable link to the help file for information on how to schedule SyncToy using the Windows XP Task Scheduler;

 

* Support for 800x600 screen resolution;

 

* Added a warning for users if the selected action will take some time to complete;

 

* Added brief explanations of the actions in the user interface;

 

* Improved behavior when choosing folders to include or exclude when there are large numbers of folders involved;

ich setze 1.4 seit November unter Vista ein, bisher ist bei mir noch kein Problem aufgetaucht und es funktioniert anscheinend zuverlässig.
